I have known so many people who have felt so much better after stopping lithium. I think that here in UK it is over-prescribed and prescription rates are much higher in the USA where it is easier to get insurance money for treatment if the diagnosis is bipolar as opposed to Borderline Personality Disorder (a horrible term that we usually replaced by, “Complex Trauma” as almost inevitably BPD was a shorthand for saying someone had PTSD that was so complex the standard PTSD treatment didn’t work.
Actually standard treatments rarely work as everyone is an individual and needs an individualised treatment plan whether or not it includes any medication.
